How to Hire a Verified Driver in Lahore: A Complete Checklist

Hiring a driver in Lahore means trusting someone with your car and your family's safety in the city's traffic. Here is exactly what to check first.

Lahore's traffic is not forgiving. Between the Ring Road, Ferozepur Road at peak hours and the narrower lanes around the Walled City and Anarkali, a driver who does not already know the city will cost you time on every single trip, and in the worst case, cost you a lot more than that. Here is the checklist we use for every driver we place across DHA, Gulberg, Model Town, Johar Town and the rest of the city.

1. Verify the Licence, Not Just Ask for It

Ask to see the original licence, check the expiry date, and confirm the category matches your vehicle. A driver used to a manual Suzuki Bolan is not automatically ready for an automatic SUV, and the gap shows up fastest in Lahore's stop-start traffic.

2. Check the Driving Record

A clean record over several years matters more than a long CV. Ask directly about accidents, challans, and how long the licence has actually been held, not just how long they say they have been driving.

3. Confirm Local Route Knowledge

A driver who genuinely knows Lahore, DHA's phases, the Gulberg roundabouts, Model Town's internal roads, and how the Ring Road behaves at different times of day, saves you real time daily. Test this directly in the interview: ask how they would get from your home to the airport at 7am versus 5pm, since the answer is different in this city.

4. Call Previous Employers Directly

This is the step most people skip and the one that matters most. A ten-minute call to a previous employer, ideally another Lahore household, tells you more about punctuality and how someone handles the city's traffic stress than any interview answer.

5. CNIC and Police Character Certificate

Verify the CNIC against NADRA records and request a police character certificate from their local station. Any hesitation here is a red flag, regardless of how strong the rest of the interview goes.

6. Plan for Wedding Season

Lahore's wedding season, roughly November through February, means longer and later hours if your household hosts or attends events regularly during that stretch. Agree on this upfront rather than renegotiating hours mid-season.

7. Set Clear Expectations in Writing

Before the driver starts, confirm in writing, even a simple message is enough, on:

  • Working hours and weekly day off
  • Whether personal use of the vehicle is allowed outside work hours
  • Who covers fuel and routine maintenance
  • How incidents, however minor, should be reported
